Abstract In this study, the researcher investigated the theoretical viewpoint of autoethnography, one of the qualitative research methods, and the research-methodological characteristics of the emotion-based autoethnography, focusing on the researcher¡¯s emotional experience and physical reaction. It is aimed to explore research-methodological application and possibility about the emotion-based autoethnography in counseling. The literature review was conducted for this purpose and the results are as follows. First, the autoethnography is a qualitative research method that can include analytic, theoretical, emotional, therapeutic, and personal social phenomena that are not simply divided into art and science. Second, the emotion-based autoethnography, focusing on the emotional experience and the physical reaction, can be understood as a method to understand the gap between personal life and socio-cultural life by studying the personal emotion of the researcher, and apply it to life. Third, the emotion-based autoethnography is a method that can deeply understand emotions by showing deep reflection on individual emotional experiences and physical reactions. The study is meaningful in that the emotion-based autoethnography can be used as a tool of healing in counseling and that it poses possibility of application to counseling research, dealing with emotion.
