Abstract	Many researchers in South Korea showed strong interest in phenomenological qualitative research. In particular, Van Manen’s Hermeneutic Phenomenological Methodology has been applied as a traditional methodology of phenomenological qualitative research, to explore various themes. However, methodological research on the Hermeneutic Phenomenological Methodology is not sufficient. Therefore, this research is set to conceptualize the traits of Van Manen’s Hermeneutic Phenomenological Methodology. The research identified 4 key traits of Hermeneutic Phenomenological Methodology: first, an emphasis on anecdote unveiling its meaning; second, a revelation of the essential meaning structure of the experiences as an objective of research; third, an emphasis on interpretation and hermeneutics circle during the process of analysis; fourth, the actualization of phenomenological reduction as a trait of methodological process. This research focusing on the traits of Van Manen’s Hermeneutic Phenomenological Methodology is expected to help researchers who adapt his methodology to implement researches, apply more adequate and traditional hermeneutic phenomenology.
