Abstract This study is a qualitative case study to explore the psychological experience to make the counselor become nondisclosure in supervision. The purpose of this study is to explore the factors causing ineffective supervision through in-depth interviews with
five counselors who have experienced supervision, applying the case study analysis proposed by Stake(1995). The results of the study showed, initially that the counselors came to be nondisclosure to the supervisor when they worried about the possibility that they could be negatively viewed or when they desperately desired for recognition.
They also become nondisclosure, when the counselor had negative perceptions of the supervisor and when the relationship with the supervisor was perceived unreliable and unfriendly. In addition, when the counselor was not aware of the supervision, they
became nondisclosure. Mostly, counselors protect themselves by keeping psychological distance from the supervisor, thereby becoming nondisclosure unconsciously. Factors affecting the nondisclosure of the counselors were categorized into four areas; fear of negative perception, doubts about the competence and attitude of the supervisor, low confidence in supervision relationships and lack of awareness of the need for opening.
The counselor's awareness of supervisor and supervision was an important factor for the counselor's nondisclosure in the supervision and the supervisor's professional competence as well as the supervisory relationship based on personality maturity, trust,
and intimacy had big influence. Based on these results, suggestions were made for further discussion and subsequent researches.
