Abstract This study aims to examine the experiences of music therapists as a client in psychotherapy. The data were collected from in-depth interviews with ten music therapists and their experiences were examined by using consensual qualitative research (CQR). As a result, 6 domains of ¡°motivation of starting psychotherapy,¡±¡°expectation on psychotherapy,¡± ¡°positive experiences in the psychotherapy process,¡±
¡°difficult experiences in the psychotherapy process,¡± ¡°personal development through psychotherapy,¡± and ¡°professional development through psychotherapy¡± were defined from the data. These domains were further divided into 22 categories. Music therapists were able to explore in-depth issues in psychotherapy and had difficulties such as distrust, burnout, and resistance from their experiences as a client. The experiences of psychotherapy further led to the extension of self-understanding, confirmation on the role of a therapist, and improvement of therapy quality. The results of the study show the meaning and values that psychotherapy can have for the growth of music therapists and provide basic data on them.
