Abstract This study is to analyze fundamental causes of a slump that would happen to all professional golfer at least once and provide solutions, taking deeper look into the cause, symptom and breakout plan of professional golfer to overcome a slump. The purpose of this study is to offer insights, with in-depth analysis on the method of professional golfers coping with a slump. Data was collected through in-depth interview with 9 male and female professional golfers and it was analyzed after extracting contents based on the contents of interview transcript, following qualitative research method and procedures. To understand professional golfers at fundamental level, it is pre-requisite to understand their life and social environments. Accordingly, this study was designed to investigate the cause, symptom, and overcoming plan, based on the stories stated by professional golfers, who are currently active in professional golf circuit. The research results were categorized into first, cause of slump, second, symptom of slump, and third, overcoming plan. The first category of cause of slump was again segmented into private-life problem, negative words, and anxiety. The second category, symptom of slump was again segmented into yips, negative thoughts, mental anxiety, complex thought, loss of self-confidence, confusion, and demotivation. The third category, overcoming plan was again segmented into practicing, taking a rest, positive thoughts, psychological counseling, getting advice, and regaining self-confidence.
