title A Research on Effects and Limits of After-School Experience among Highschool Students in Geonnam Province

Abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of afterschool programs to improvement of learning at highschool in Jeonnam area. The research was designed to assess effectiveness and limits of afterschool programs. To analyze what the effectiveness and limit of the afterschool programs were, qualitative case study was performed. Seven students participated in the study for 6-month research from March through August
2015. In the research, with qualitative case study, researcher identified three benefits of after school programs. First, students were gaining confidence. Second, students were able to recognize their academic ability objectively. Third, students were able to get assistance from afterschool teachers for college admission examination. In the research, two limitations of afterschool programs were also identified. First limitation lied in the
nature of afterschool programs, initiated and implemented for political interests. Second, in some cases, the priority was misplaced between schoooling and shadow education.
