The Unfolding and Blossoming of Feeling, Energy, and Understanding of the world and ¡°Self-in-the-world¡± in Children: Case Studies and Issues


 

Session Abstract:

In the last several years there have been various efforts to understand the subjective life and overall nature of children more deeply, particularly when they engage in activity where they bring in their own ideas and feelings. The present session focuses on studies in which the investigator, as in C. H. Cooley¡¯s ¡°Principle of Sympathetic Introspection,¡± engages herself with all of her sympathy and inner motivation to understand the child, in the child and activity as a whole and then evokes what she is seeing, using a variety of data, as best as she can in the form of a case study or portrait (Lawrence-Lightfoot).
